What it is;
A showcase of instruments made from recycled and found materials.
A musical environment which can transform a space and create magical atmospheres.
Accompaniment
to other performances or artworks e.g. sculpture space, fire garden, etc..
How does it sound?
These
instruments have a magical harmonic sound, able to move between the exotic
gongs or the Far East and the joyful xylophones of Africa. They can be upbeat/rhythmic
or mystical/ambient. I use influences from dance and rural music from around
the world and filter it through my broad interest in sound exploration and
entertainment. Audiences used words like enchanting,
mystical, hypnotic, etc. sometimes they responded by dancing to the groovier
moments.
Setup:
At present these instruments take about 40 minutes to set up and sound check though I am working on a portable/touring version that will be much quicker.
Currently I need a mains power supply and protection from the elements these are electronic/amplified instruments. Although I am developing a portable version that will be powered and amplified from a rechargeable battery.
Space
I
take up about as much space as a piano player.
Who I am.
Daniel Weaver Performer and composer for theatre, dance and circus.
I have toured UK, Europe and the Middle East with Solo shows, Bands and Theatre work.
I have made music from recycled and found objects for 3 decades including lo-fi electronics and scrap materials.
I am known for entertaining and experimental work that appeals widely and fits well into given briefs. For example I have made dozens of scores for theatre and dance (using traditional instruments and electronics production tools).
I have organised art and music events including small festivals so I am familiar with and sympathetic to the needs of promoters.
I also work in schools and special needs settings using the mediums of sound and movement.
Feel free to contact me to discuss your event and how Spannerman could transform a space.
Quotations/testimony
It
took me a while to track down the magical tinkling sound emanating from the
canal during the Festival of Light but there, nestling in a boat was a musician
drawing the audience close with his haunting, lingering music. Me
and my boys sat with the other families wrapped in a blanket of sound. Helen

You are too modest Daniel, your performance was amazing. And absolutely
the greenest thing I have seen for a long time. Mark Loudon
You were amazing Daniel, great music, creativity and sound loved meeting
