News of my activities as a theatre composer/performer and my workshops/teaching

Alongside the usual composing and teaching work I am actively researching and training to develop a more therapeutic approach to group work. My aim is to improve my understanding of group dynamics and interaction through creative processes so that I might better support participants who wish to develope emotionally through their creativity. This approach draws on my experience in devising theatre and performing improvisation. It uses movement, sound, improvisation and collaborative group work. It can be used for making performances or for personal development.

I have also been researching setting up a company for adults with learning disabilities in the Calderdale area.

Brief news 2011

workshop 3rd December Theme of Musicality

Using musical analogies to understand and connect with the body. Tone, Rhythm, Phrasing, Patterns, Feel etc. How can we react spontaneously and with courage to be ourselves in improvisation? How can we prepare for spontenaeity?

Each discipline has it's language and methods which it borrows and shares to liberate or restrict us. By looking from another angle we find fresh meanings in what we know. My workshops are more about releasing, revealing and strengthening our skills than about aquiring new skills.

Please email by weds 30th nov to confirm attendance.

"Daniel Weaver's looping guitar gradually spun order from chaos as pieces developed, with what seemed to be complex re-sampling of earlier loops as new material was laid down. Some tunes were more demanding whilst others were more melodic and we thought some made connections with Robert Fripp. One interesting thing about Daniel's work is the physicality - he performs bends and twists his body into a form of dance as he manipulates the electronics with his feet." Review by Chorlton radiophonic workshop Dec 20 2008

Sept Short North West tour of "an evening of instability" by stumble dance circus. see www.stumbledancecircus.com

June I played at the white nights festival in Tel Aviv and ran various workshops. Here's a review of the gig.

"There was no shortage of humor in the following performances by British performer, guitarist, vocalist and occasional dancer Daniel Weaver and the Israeli dance troupe, Octet. Weaver used his guitar, body and vocals in an associative and intuitive manner, quoting pop songs, including a dramatic version of Tom Jones' “Delilah,” adding his flowing thoughts while manipulating skeletal and strange sounds from the guitar with a set of pedals and effects, but always communicating and commenting on the dancers' moves with his own spastic ones. This kind of kinetic collective improvisation was quite remarkable in its natural flow and continuing series of surprising interactions between Weaver and the dancers, until he decided to join the dancers."

December/January I was working in Tel Aviv, developing cross disciplinary workshops. "Using a musical approach to understand the stage". The work is tailored to each group and caters for musicians dancers, actors, choreographers, directors, etc. My method covers rhythm, listening and body work to help groups work together and understand each other's disciplines.

I also put some time into developing cabaret material and working on a solo performance about birds and birdsong collecting (both performed at Void gallery in Derry).
